Psychoneuroimmunology-- Or, how I faced down a clown in the cancer ward and lived to speak of it.
Chris Battle was diagnosed in March of 2009 with renal cell carcinoma -- more popularly known as kidney cancer. His cancer is Stage IV, meaning that it has metastasized into other parts of his body (including the lungs and an lymphatic system). He has undergone various surgeries and treatments, including a radical right nephrectemy, lung surgery, high-dose interluekin (IL-2), an MDX-1106 Phase 1 clinical trial and Sutent.
All of the cuttings and injections and side effects were undergone in search of NED. Depending upon your view on life, NED is either short for No Evidence of Disease or is the name of a mythical fat man who lives somewhere in Ohio and holds all the answers to curing cancer.
The Kidney Cancer Chronicles blog was established to tell the story of Chris' fight against kidney cancer, his quixotic search for NED and to share his experiences, and what he has learned, with others who are also undergoing this fight.
