This is the story of one man’s search for NED. And what or who, pray tell, is NED? Depending upon your view on life, NED is either short for No Evidence of Disease, or it is the name of a mythical fat man who lives somewhere in Ohio and holds all the answers to curing cancer. Or maybe both. This article, first published in Arkansas Life magazine, covers the initial shock of being diagnosed with cancer – and then the bewildering, often frustrating, sometimes potentially fatal experience of navigating the complex labyrinth of fractured medical services we refer to as oncology.
